Banana fibre made from waste banana stem

Banana Fibre

Banana fiber is a natural fiber obtained from the stem and pseudostem of the banana plant. It is a strong and durable material that is commonly used to make textiles, paper, and other products.

The fiber is extracted by scraping the Pseudostem of the banana plant and then washing, pounding, and drying the fibers. Due to its strength, durability, and eco-friendly nature, it is a popular alternative to synthetic fibers in various industries

Handicraft

Crafting beautiful products from the banana fiber is an art that has been passed down from generation to generation. Artisans use their skills and creativity to make unique and eye-catching items like bags, trays, baskets, and other accessories.

They are able to create a sustainable livelihood for themselves by creating these handmade products. Not only do these artisans get the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands, but they also get the satisfaction of seeing their customers enjoy the end product. Banana fiber handicrafts are not only beautiful, but they also have a positive impact on our environment as well as providing employment opportunities for skilled artisans.

Textile

What was earlier regarded as agricultural waste and a nuisance for farmers is now a raw material for good quality silk grade fiber yarn, called Banana Silk. Petrochemical based fibre production has undergone continuing rising costs. Synthetic fibres rely on precious non-renewable resources and incur environmental costs in their production.

The Banana plant has long been a source of fibre for high-quality textiles. These banana shoots produce fibres of varying degree of softness, yielding yarns and textiles with differing qualities for specific uses. For example, the outermost fibres of the shoots are the coarsest, and are suitable for tablecloths.

Banana fiber is a good alternative to all synthetic and natural fibers.

Banana fiber is eco-friendly, chemical-free, non-toxic, and odor-free.

Banana Paper

Banana paper is a type of paper created from banana plant bark or banana peel fibres. Banana paper has a lower density, higher stiffness, higher disposability, higher renewability, and higher tensile strength compared to traditional paper. These qualities are due to the cellular composition of banana fibre, which consists of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin.

Raw banana paper has a coarse surface due to the presence of hemicellulose, lignin, and other waxy components in the fibre. Long wrapped fibre bundles are a key component of banana paper. Length is also a significant fibre property, as longer fibres contain more fibre joints. These fibre joints contribute to a stronger network of fibres. Long fibre manufactured papers usually have better strength properties than short fibre manufactured papers
